The Senior Civil Engineer is a principal-level position responsible for delivering the design, engineering, and documentation of civil infrastructure for luxury single-family home projects from feasibility through permit approval, and for executing the Strategic Plan for Civil Engineering  role manages a team, creates civil designs, develops documentation packages, and works with local jurisdictions during permit review. The Senior Civil Engineer partners with MN Studio (Architecture Department) and other teams to ensure high-quality homes and to contribute to design and technical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership
    • Leads and manages the Civil Engineering team.
    • Integrates and improves civil engineering delivery processes with peers and leaders.
    • Coordinates resource allocation and project scheduling with Architecture.
    • Coaches team members and provides continuous feedback.
    • Accounts for overall team performance, pacing, and goal achievement.
    • Serves as the primary contact for civil engineering.
    • Builds relationships with stakeholders.
    • Assists in hiring, training, coaching, and supervising staff.
  • Project Ownership
    • Establishes and implements civil engineering delivery processes, tools, and standards.
    • Implements integrated site design functionality for coordination with other disciplines.
    • Acts as the Professional of Record for civil engineering document submittals to local jurisdictions.
  • Technical and Design Excellence
    • Assists Feasibility and Land Acquisition teams with risk and scope evaluation.
    • Performs site development design for grading, drainage, sewer, water, erosion control, and road design.
    • Leads creation of BIM models, standards, and permit submittal documentation.
    • Uses technology-forward processes for coordination with other MN departments.
    • Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work.
    • Oversees production of technical reports, calculations, and observation reports.
  • Technical and Design Standards
    • Stays current on standards and best practices and implements them.
    • Develops and maintains documentation quality and completeness standards.
    • Ensures compliance with all codes and standards.
    • Develops forms, reports, templates, and standards across civil engineering.
  • Any other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of stormwater management, grading, and utility design.
  • Problem-solving with creative application of technical expertise and design judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, able to multitask and flex in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Quick decision-making under pressure.
  • Inspirational leadership and high emotional intelligence.
  • Adoption of MN processes and standards.
  • Consistent modeling of company values, mission, and culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Washington State Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) registration.
  • Other P.E. licenses considered favorably, especially Arizona.
  • 8+ years’ post‑degree experience producing design deliverables for permit submittal.
  • 4+ years’ experience with new construction single‑family residential infill developments.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing and inspiring a team of Civil Engineers and Drafters.
Working Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Computer use daily, keyboard functions and visual acuity of 20 inches or fewer for 7+ hours per day.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on the computer.
  • Open cube office, Monday‑Friday, core hours 8 a.m.‑5 p.m.
Travel & Vehicle Requirements
  • Occasional local travel within the larger Seattle/Bellevue area.
  • Valid WA State driver’s license and insurance.
  • Personal vehicle use for business travel, with stipend or mileage reimbursement.
