Purpose of the PositionAs part of Sea-Bird’s evolving Supply Chain organization, the Material Handler I ensures materials are received, processed, and put away accurately and efficiently. This role supports our operations by coordinating inventory control and receiving activities, handling materials safely, maintaining inventory accuracy, and helping the team meet on-time delivery and quality goals.
Essential Functions- Prepare and process outgoing shipments according to standard procedures, including paperwork, labeling, and carrier coordination.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments, ensuring accuracy and quality before routing items to the correct location.
- Stock materials, track inventory movement, and maintain records within our ERP and warehouse systems.
- Safely handle, package, and store materials—including fragile and sensitive instruments—to prevent damage.
- Support compliance with all local, national, and international regulations, including export control and EHS standards.
- Identify and elevate issues, contributing to continuous improvement and long‑term solutions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Work occasional overtime or alternate shifts as needed to meet team goals.
- Demonstrate a positive, team‑oriented attitude and willingness to help others succeed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, or material handling.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with shipping or warehouse management software.
- Understanding of proper PPE use and safe handling practices.
- Familiarity with packaging fragile or sensitive equipment.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of shipping Dangerous Goods regulations.
- Familiarity with Lean or continuous improvement principles.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Experience coordinating domestic and international shipments through UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, or freight forwarders.
- Proven ability to follow and help refine standard work processes.
- Knowledge of import/export compliance or hazardous materials (e.g., lithium batteries) is a plus.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Good visual acuity and manual dexterity for handling small components.
- Must be able to safely operate material handling equipment and wear required PPE, including steel‑toe shoes.
