Overview
This is an on‑site position where you instruct water exercise classes and provide motivation for class participants. You act as a liaison and champion for YMCA Total Health.

Hiring Range: $21.30 – $24.20/hour DOE (Instructors are paid for class time, as well as the 15 minutes before and after a class).
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead water fitness classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
- Develop positive relationships with class members/participants, providing motivational support and guidance.
- Increase class member/participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.
- Organize and put away class equipment and report equipment problems.
- Maintain records as appropriate (i.e., class attendance).
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Attend staff meetings and applicable trainings approved by supervisor.
- Train and supervise volunteer class aides as assigned.
- Encourage member involvement and identify potential volunteers.
- Convey basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants and, as appropriate, refer members to appropriate Total Health program or staff member.
- Make follow‑up motivational phone calls to Total Health participants (optional).
- Assist with total health orientation (optional).
Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older.
- Water Fitness Instructor or equivalent.
- Ability to demonstrate proper water fitness techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fitness protocol.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current state‑approved first‑aid certification.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
- Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
- Within 30 days of employment, or first available training.
- Within six months of employment, at first available training.
Expected Hours of Work
Monday and/or Wednesday, 8:45 am‑10:00 am.
