Western Washington University (WWU) is a public university with about 15,000 students across seven colleges and the graduate school. The department offers core courses for the major and minor in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and provides space for interdisciplinary and community-based learning. It emphasizes small, student-centered classes, innovative pedagogy, and close faculty-student interaction.

About the Position

The Department maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons for non-tenure-track teaching positions. Applications are accepted continuously for temporary, part-time, non-tenure-track instructor-level appointments. Most positions are filled on a quarterly basis, though assignments may occur any time and are typically determined by July 15 for the upcoming academic year.

We expect exemplary teaching, current expertise in your discipline, active student engagement in learning, and high standards in course content. Responsibilities include providing timely feedback on coursework and exams, offering regularly scheduled office hours, and mentoring majors and minors in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. You will also be expected to have students evaluate your courses using university evaluation forms and to share those evaluations with the program director and advisory committee for annual review.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies consistent with the department’s offerings and student needs.
  • Provide timely feedback on coursework and examinations.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and engage with students in designated WWU locations.
  • Mentor majors and minors in the program.
  • Facilitate student evaluations of courses and use feedback for course improvement.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MA or above in any field with a focus on feminist, queer, and intersectional thought and methodologies
  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching at the college or university level
  • Demonstrated interest in community-based learning
  • Demonstrated skills in applying feminist and queer thought across diverse cultures and globally
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in any field with a focus on feminist, queer, and intersectional thought and methodologies
