We help builders stay on schedule by handling wetland permitting, end-to
- end, and we have been doing it since 1992. Our services include feasibility, delineation,
mitigation design, permitting, project management, construction management, mitigation install, mitigation monitoring, and mitigation maintenance.
Most of our work is in Whatcom County although we regularly work in Skagit, San Jaun, Island, Snohomish, King, and Thurston County (and companying jurisdictions). We often hire people from outside the industry. We are a small, family-owned and operated, and growing firm.
Overview: The Wetland Project Technician role empowers hands-on contributions to wetland services while supporting profitability in alignment with ATSI’s Hedgehogs Concept. ATSI standards indicate a focus on candidates with self-awareness and growth potential, ensuring hires contribute to sustainable environmental practices through accurate data collection and efficient fieldwork.
Primary Objective: Support wetland-related services (delineations, monitoring, mitigation installations, & project management) through hands-on fieldwork (65%) and coordination (35%). Ensuring that reliable data, safety, and timely deliverables for environmental compliance and restoration.
Physical Requirements At times, be able to:
- Be on your feet for 8+ hours at a time
- Navigate thick underbrush, including blackberries, for 8+ hours at a time
- Navigate over and through downed forestry as well as in dense woods for 8+ hours at a time
- Dig several holes about 12-24” deep and 4″ in diameter
- Run a Weed Whacker
- Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Exposure to variable weather
- Outdoor Environmental Fieldwork: 2+ years in wetland surveys or restoration, handling vegetation, soil, and hydrology data under variable conditions.
- Adapting to Unpredictable Environments:
Solving on-site issues like weather changes or terrain challenges independently. - Data Management Under Time Constraints:
Collecting and organizing field notes, photos, and maps accurately and efficiently. - Tech Tools Proficiency:
Familiarity with GIS, Ecobot, QField, SharePoint, or Asana; quick learner for new systems. - Independent Learning:
Picking up wetland indicators, methodologies, code, or tools without extensive guidance.
- Fast past prioritization and organization: you will be receiving multiple priorities throughout the day and you will be required to ensure all tasks are documented and organized per the company system.
- Execute Field Tasks:
Conduct soil sampling, vegetation identification, wetland delineations, ordinary high water mark determinations, and other field surveys using standard methodologies. - Document and Upload Data:
Collect notes, photos, maps; organize and upload into shared systems like SharePoint or QField. - Document Creation:
Draft, edit, and finalize reports of various statuses. - Assist Mitigation
Activities:
Support installations, monitoring, and compliance reporting on-site (i.e. planting, weed whacking, sourcing and ordering materials, etc.). - Coordination: project onboarding, Schedule basic fieldwork timings and track progress, filing, code research, asana updates, sourcing equipment, purchasing equipment, and note taking for project updates as well as miscellaneous project admin related tasks.
- Maintain Equipment and Safety:
Report issues, participate in protocols, and ensure efficient operations. - Adapt On-Site:
Make minor adjustments and elevate concerns promptly.
- Perform reliable data collection on vegetation, soil, and hydrology for delineations, monitoring, and reports.
- Maintain safety, efficiency, and adaptability in outdoor operations to meet timelines.
- Assist in mitigation installations, monitoring, and basic data uploads.
- Contribute to project coordination, minor scheduling and documentation for project coordination.
- Be ready to go into the field at a moment’s notice every day if needed.
