- Assist provider with initial patient assessments and vital signs.
- Perform and document medical procedures, including EKGs, spirometry, vision and hearing screening, throat cultures, NSTs, and bladder scans.
- Administer medications per provider orders, including oral, IM, IV, sub‑Q, intradermal, and intradermal; must be IV‑certified by WFM‑approved educator.
- Provide oral and written patient education on disease processes, medication, and treatment implementation.
- Execute patient treatments/procedures such as venipuncture, nebulization, catheterization, ear lavage, dressing changes, boot application, and sponging infants.
- Assist in minor surgery and specialty procedures (cast application, sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, cervical biopsy, EMB, IUD insertion, pap smears).
- Manage prescriptions pending in EHR; cannot refill medications.
- Complete paperwork for diagnostic tests performed outside the center.
- Contact patients who missed vital recheck appointments.
- Schedule appointments with external specialists, fax needed records, and document details.
- Review children’s immunization records and administer immunizations per TDH guidelines and provider orders.
- Handle all messages, MyCharts, and result notes in the EHR inbox.
- Maintain nursing home facsimiles, hospital records, and lab/x‑ray reports in patient charts.
- Keep exam rooms clean and stocked.
- Complete assigned Quality Assurance tasks per QA log.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Texas Driver’s License.
- Completion of an accredited medical assisting program and an externship.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the AAMA or another recognized agency.
- CPR certification.
- ≥1 year of prior experience in medical assisting or a related healthcare role.
- Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Must work within CMA scope of practice.
- Visual and auditory accuracy.
- 8‑hour shifts with occasional overtime.
- Continuous use of computer & EHR.
- Extensive standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, climbing.
- Sitting as occasional.
- Frequent telephone usage.
- Continuous conversational communication.
- Continuous repetitive grasping and manipulation of both hands.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lb.
- Occasional pushing/pulling and positioning patients up to 200 lb.
- Occasional pushing/pulling and positioning patients over 200 lb (with assistance).
- Infrequent use of personal transportation.
- Ability to respond quickly and calmly to medical emergencies.
