Overview
Join the GCU (UK) Ltd delivery team and take ownership of end-to-end fibre cabling projects across Scotland, ensuring each build is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required technical standards. You’ll lead projects from survey through to handover, coordinating with civils teams, cabling, splicing and installation activities while keeping contractors and field teams aligned and supported. You’ll also manage materials, permits, traffic management and access needs to help keep programmes moving and drive continuous improvement across delivery processes.
Regular travel to operational sites is required to build effective relationships, gain insight into frontline operations, and understand the needs of our teams, clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Lead end-to-end fibre cabling projects across Scotland from survey to handover, ensuring safety, technical compliance, and timely delivery.
- Coordinate with civils, cabling, splicing and installation activities; manage contractors and field teams to maintain alignment and support.
- Manage materials, permits, traffic management and access requirements to sustain programme progress.
- Provide comprehensive progress reporting, identify risks and propose mitigations to keep projects on track.
- Act as the technical expert for fibre installation, address blockages and civil defects, perform quality checks, and ensure accurate documentation and timely production.
- Plan work schedules to optimise team efficiency, ensure notices and documentation are in place, and rectify defects within contractual deadlines.
- Interpret utility drawings, resolve on-site network issues, and ensure proper execution of complex installations.
- Build and manage relationships with clients and contractors; conduct site audits and walk-offs to ensure satisfaction; oversee payment applications and ensure paperwork meets standards.
- Guide field operatives and subcontractors to maintain compliance and foster a culture of excellence.
- Proven experience in fibre cabling or telecoms infrastructure delivery with knowledge of FTTP/PON build methods and cabling standards.
- Ability to manage contractors, budgets and schedules; practical, problem-solving approach for live environments.
- Solid understanding of Openreach network and processes, HSEQ frameworks, NRSWA and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with field teams and stakeholders.
- Project management qualifications such as PRINCE2 or APM; familiarity with GIS or telecoms build tools is a plus.
