To help us deliver our plans and regeneration aspirations, we are recruiting for a committed 0.5 fte environmental health officer to supplement the existing pollution control and public health team resource. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would work a pattern of two days the first week and three days the second week or equivalent, but the service is not fixed on the days required to work and will be flexible.

The substantive office base for the team is station house, 950 old edinburgh road, bellshill ml4 3fg, but you will operate on a hybrid working arrangement as part of a team responsible for the efficient delivery and administration of all pollution control, public health and general environmental health related functions covering a geographical area within north lanarkshire.

the main duties of the post include undertaking investigation work measuring noise levels and assessing any potential noise impact; investigating general pollution control complaints on a reactive basis; responding to statutory planning consultations in relation to noise, air quality and contaminated land issues; investigation of public health complaints, including statutory nuisance investigation and assessment; assisting in the development of service and corporate policies and strategies.

The job requires that work is updated promptly on the council’s database systems in line with the designated response times.

it is essential that qualified environmental health officers hold the rehis diploma in environmental health, or its equivalent. You must have a sound knowledge of current pollution control, public health and environmental protection legislation and be able to demonstrate experience in pollution control work or environmental health. In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and possess excellent communication and it skills.

a current driving licence is essential. rehis membership is desirable.

the successful candidate will be required to participate in an out-of-hours standby service.
