The Faculty of Natural Sciences hosts nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy and several world‑class research institutes and centres. Based on a foundation of internationally‑recognised quality research, the faculty is committed to learning and teaching excellence and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines as well as a professional degree in Pharmacy.
The School of Pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape has a strong focus on patient and service‑oriented education, building on a sound scientific base and active research. The School intends to appoint an experienced Academic Pharmacist or Clinical Pharmacologist to complement and enhance both teaching and research expertise in pharmacology and clinical pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on campus and in clinical settings
- Conduct research and publish in appropriate high‑impact journals
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment and the continuous improvement of the academic programme
- Community engagement and outreach activities
- Manage academic administration
- A BPharm, MBChB or related degree AND a Pharm
D or PhD (in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology or Clinical Pharmacology), OR a MPharm/MSc (in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology or Clinical Pharmacology) with extensive (> 5 years) clinical practice experience - Current registration with the appropriate Professional Council (SAPC or HPCSA) to practice in South Africa
- Teaching or practice experience with an innovative approach towards teaching, learning and mentorship
- A record of relevant high‑quality accredited publications and experience of postgraduate research supervision, OR a record of innovative professional/clinical practice and mentorship (if practice‑based)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Teaching, training and mentoring skills in an academic and clinical environment
- Engaging and developing undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Planning and organising skills
- Time and project management skills
- A track record of developing research projects and securing funding
- Teaching experience with a student‑centred approach
- Collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, government departments, community health and/or research organisations
- Active working experience as a pharmacist in a clinical environment
