The Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of the Western Cape is internationally recognised for its excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty comprises nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy and a number of world‑class research institutes and centres. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.

An opportunity currently exists for candidates to apply for the position of Senior Faculty Officer to oversee the academic activities of the Faculty and supervise Faculty Office staff; ensuring that the academic and student management processes are of a high standard; to oversee the implementation and effective and efficient use of systems and processes that align the faculties’ operations with the institutional goals, including HR administrative activities and committee administration.

Duties

Reporting to the Faculty Manager, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to supervising faculty administration and execution of the following tasks:

  • Academic Administration
  • Marks Administration
  • Student Support
  • Postgraduate Management
  • Enquiry Management
  • Committee Administration
  • Marketing, Branding and Student Recruitment
  • Meeting and General Office Administration
  • Staff Supervision
  • Faculty Administration

While the successful applicant will be expected to perform in the above, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Statistical numeracy and reporting
  • Marketing and Media Skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • A track record of innovative practice
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric with a Honours Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Higher Education environment, of which at least 3 years should be in a Faculty Officer role
  • Committee Administration
