Electrical & Electronic Engineer job vacancy in Bellville.
The Electrical & Electronic Engineer is responsible for the specification, design, programming, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support of electrical, electronic, control, and instrumentation systems associated with steam and hot water boilers and ancillary equipment.
The role ensures all systems are designed and commissioned in accordance with national and international standards while supporting project delivery, operational efficiency, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical and Instrumentation Design
- Design electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for boilers and associated equipment
- Prepare instrument lists, I/O lists, loop drawings, routing diagrams, hook-up drawings, and instrumentation specifications
- Develop instrument data sheets, calibration documentation, and control philosophies
- Design analogue control diagrams and PLC control systems
- Design PLC control panels and associated electrical systems
- Prepare motor lists, cable sizing calculations, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Select and specify electrical equipment and components in accordance with project requirements and industry standards
- PLC and DCS Programming
- Develop, modify, and maintain PLC and DCS software applications
- Program and configure control systems using Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional, Schneider Unity Pro, or similar platforms
- Perform control loop tuning and optimisation to improve plant performance and operational efficiency
- Conduct software testing and validation prior to commissioning
- Commissioning and Technical Support
- Assist with cold and hot commissioning of boilers, combustion equipment, and ancillary systems
- Commission electrical equipment, instrumentation, pumps, fans, burners, variable speed drives, oil and gas systems, and control valves
- Tune and configure boiler control systems and automatic control loops
- Conduct fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on boiler and ancillary equipment control systems
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and operational phases
- Project Estimation and Proposal Support
- Prepare estimates and technical proposals for electrical and instrumentation scopes of work
- Review customer requirements and develop compliant technical solutions
- Support tendering and project costing activities
- Provide technical input into project planning and execution
- Procurement and Materials Management
- Prepare technical specifications and procurement documentation for electrical and instrumentation equipment
- Assist with supplier evaluations and technical assessments
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system
- Ensure accurate documentation and control of engineering data
- Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
- Interact with customers, contractors, suppliers, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders
- Participate in project meetings, commissioning activities, and customer engagements
- Maintain professional relationships and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
- Documentation and Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with applicable national and international standards and regulations
- Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation
- Support quality assurance and compliance requirements throughout project execution
- Prepare technical reports and project documentation as required
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent qualification
- Professional registration with ECSA, or actively working towards registration, will be advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within an industrial control environment
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in PLC and DCS programming
Minimum 3 years’ experience in control loop tuning and optimisation - Strong understanding of electrical engineering, instrumentation, and automatic control systems
- Good understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Knowledge of national and international electrical equipment standards and regulations
- Experience with Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional, Schneider Unity Pro, or similar PLC platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Exposure to AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN will be advantageous
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with customers and stakeholders at all levels
