Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Operations Manager
JOHNEX explosives are a 100% Australian owned manufacturer and distributor of innovative explosives and are seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to join our team at the Belmont Head Office. This pivotal role is responsible for managing health, safety, environmental, and quality processes across the business, with a strong focus on closing out actions, auditing, and driving SHEQ improvements at our manufacturing and operational sites.
Key Responsibilities- Establish, implement, and maintain the Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Management System.
- Ensure compliance with ISO Quality Management System requirements and coordinate external audits.
- Draft quality reports based on incident outcomes for internal and external release.
- Conduct and coordinate inspections and audits across operations, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Manage the SafeX incident management system, including investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Coach and advise staff to improve SHEQ awareness and performance.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in SHEQ practices.
- Manage risk management, crisis management, and emergency response plans.
- Conduct regular site visits to production and operational facilities across Australia.
- Lead HAZOP studies and liaise with regulators on MHF licence compliance.
- Assist with AN, ANE, and Explosive storage licence applications and submissions.
- Manage environmental licence renewals and regulator site visits.
- Track performance trends to ensure strong production and environmental outcomes.
- Represent the company at industry meetings and communicate outcomes to stakeholders.
- Support R&D projects and participate in ISO 9001 quality assurance training.
- Facilitate monthly toolbox discussions and ensure document control processes are maintained.
- Flexible working hours to meet business deadlines.
- Attendance at industry seminars, meetings, and functions.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Regular interstate travel (1–2 weeks per month) and occasional international travel.
- Tertiary qualification in WH&S with practical training experience.
- Dangerous Goods Consultant qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (desirable).
- Strong knowledge of Australian Safety, Dangerous Goods, and Explosive legislation and standards.
- Qualified internal auditor for ISO 9000.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
- Excellent personal presentation and communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with regulators and stakeholders.
