Position: Clinical Liaison I

Overview

This is a position for a Clinical Liaison at the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center (HBTRC), a brain repository part of the NIH Neuro Bio Bank . HBTRC is a centralized resource for the collection and distribution of human brain specimens for research. This research supports understanding disorders of the nervous system, such as neurological, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric disorders.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates brain donations during office hours and off-hours (1 week shift every 5-6 weeks).
  • Maintains relationship with donor families, including addressing specific queries and sending documentation requested by families, such as neuropathological reports when appropriate.
  • Is principally responsible for HBTRC collection and analysis of medical records to provide demographic, behavioral, and clinical information to investigators and NIH. This includes data entry and running queries using the HBTRC database and Access forms used for NIH uploads.
  • Utilize structured clinical assessment batteries to facilitate the accurate diagnosis and severity of symptoms of psychiatric and neurological disorders.
  • Interacts with potential donors and their families regarding brain donation, neuropathology reports and registrations.
  • Contributes to preparation and updates of standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to responsibilities.
  • Uploads and stores electronic medical records.
  • Assists in tracking and storage maintenance of donor case folders and medical records stored in-house and at an off-site storage location.
  • Participates in outreach activities and fundraising to increase brain donation awareness and brain disorder advocacy; assists in ordering and distribution of promotional material.

  • Qualifications
    • Experience with brain disorders, neuropathology and, particularly, neuroanatomy is strongly preferred.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team.
    • Basic understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality and IT security; integrity to maintain confidentiality and respect for subjects' rights and needs.
    • Experience with the medical environment and knowledge of clinical terms related to psychiatry, neurology, and pharmacology; experience with clinical records strongly preferred.
