HELT Design Architecture Interiors, a vision-oriented and design-focused studio based in Belmont, NC, is seeking a Design-Focused Project Architect to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an architect who combines strong design sensibility with technical expertise — someone who enjoys exploring complex forms through digital modeling while also guiding projects from concept through completion.
At HELT, we value architects who can think creatively, lead collaboratively, and execute precisely. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to shape project design direction, mentor emerging staff, and engage directly with clients who value thoughtful, experience-driven architecture. Sometimes leading, sometimes supporting, you’ll contribute to projects that span from adaptive reuse, civic, and community-focused work that enriches our community.
Your Responsibilities- Collaborate closely with clients and firm leadership to launch projects with clarity of vision and intent, helping shape both design direction and project goals.
- Develop innovative design solutions for complex challenges, always seeking unique opportunities, challenges, and regulatory contexts.
- Research and apply building codes and zoning requirements to ensure creative solutions remain compliant and buildable.
- Select and specify materials, finishes, and systems that reflect each project’s architectural narrative and performance goals.
- Translate design concepts into clear, coordinated Construction Documents, integrating technical precision with design integrity.
- Participate in the construction phase through site observations, RFI and submittal review, and collaboration with contractors to uphold design quality.
- Engage with consultants, vendors, and clients to maintain communication, resolve issues, and strengthen long-term partnerships.
- Proactively communicate with supervisors and teammates, keeping leadership informed of progress, challenges, and opportunities for refinement.
Competitive benefits package available including 401k plan with company match, professional development allowance, employee recognition program, paid time off, nine paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance and discretionary performance bonuses.
Your Qualifications- Progressive work history of 4-8 years of experience in a professional design practice.
- Technical design software production skills with the ability to effectively communicate design solutions.
- When prudent, communicate and lead clients with professionalism through decisions affecting their projects.
- Understanding of relevant building codes, construction methods, and relevant detailing for clear construction documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a cooperative approach.
- Project Management and Scheduling Skillsets – familiarity with project management software is preferred but not required.
- Proven experience with software such as CAD, Revit, Sketchup, Lumion and related Generative Design Software.
- Ability to effectively work independently or with a team.
- Professional license not required, pathway to licensure preferred.
