Position Summary
The Director of Recreation Services is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the full scope of recreation services in the nursing center and assisted living.
Position Type / Expected HoursFull Time – typically scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities / Accountability- Put Customer Service First:
Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights. - Ensure recreation services are in compliance with Recover‑Care policies, procedures, and federal/state regulations.
- Serve as a collaborative member of the center management team and support practices that focus on improving clinical, customer, staff, and business excellence.
- Complete comprehensive assessment.
- Contribute to the development of an interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Plan individual and group programs in accordance with the patient’s needs, preferences, interests, abilities, and are consistent with treatment goals and interventions.
- Encourage patient involvement in recreation services planning.
- Establish and communicate a schedule of programming in accordance with resident needs and preferences.
- Ensure implementation of meaningful recreation services for all patients.
- Ensure that all recreation programs adhere to safety and infection control standards.
- Document patient’s response, involvement, and progress within programs.
- Maintain records that improve future planning, individualised approach, and continual evaluation and revision of programs.
- Train and oversee documentation of recreation services staff.
- Provide information and resources to promote successful engagement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of recreation services to enhance quality of life, meet program goals and performance objectives, evaluate customer feedback and satisfaction, and report findings and recommendations to the Centre Quality Improvement Committee.
- Identify and assign special projects to enhance recreation services.
- Provide orientation for new recreation staff and serve as an ongoing mentor.
- Provide regularly scheduled in‑services for the centre staff on the benefits and value of recreation involvement.
- Provide supervision to recreation staff and volunteers to achieve delivery of quality recreation services.
- Develop positive relationships with members of the patients’ families: orient family members to recreation services, encourage families to participate in programmes, and encourage families to make suggestions for the recreation programmes.
- Develop positive relationships with the community: utilise community resources in recreation programmes, encourage community organisations to include patients in their events, and provide ongoing communication to families, community organisations, and public officials.
- Assess, determine and order necessary resources, equipment and supplies.
- Prepare the yearly budget for the recreation department, monitor the budget monthly and work with the Administrator to address budget variances.
- Establish and maintain an effective volunteer programme through recruiting, screening, orienting, training, supervising, evaluating, and recognising volunteers.
- Keep abreast of Federal, State and local requirements and guidelines regarding recreation programming.
- Act as a resource person to other recreation professionals and community organisations.
- Ensure confidentiality of all protected information.
- Be knowledgeable of and uphold resident rights.
- Ensure all department functions are congruent with the vision, mission, core beliefs, corporate values and strategic priorities of Recover‑Care Health Care Corporation.
- Utilise technology to support departmental functions for communication, planning, programming, documentation and evaluation.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies governing the centre, by the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (ADC) or the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS).
