This position is in the Hy-Vee Pharmacy department and involves assisting pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications, while delivering prompt, efficient and friendly customer service.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities- Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Smile and greet customers; learn and use customer names when possible.
- Assist customers by guiding them to products, securing items, handling heavy loads, and acting on customer suggestions or requests to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer telephone calls promptly and provide helpful service.
- Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Handle inquiries that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise and judgment.
- Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests, under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Take orders from or call doctor’s offices for refill prescriptions and gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
- Enter prescription and patient information into the computer and maintain accurate patient records.
- Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing and in labeling, mailing, and submitting insurance claims.
- File prescriptions after dispensing and report any medication errors to appropriate personnel.
- Order, check-in, and stock pharmacy supplies; assist with third party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
- Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area; adhere to personal hygiene and dress policies.
- Adhere to all statutes, regulations, and company policies pertaining to a pharmacy technician.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time; administer vaccines as allowed by law.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed and perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
- Ability to think logically and solve problems; handle abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and work with numbers.
- Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, interact with people, interview or advise others, and interpret technical data.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working towards a licensed technician certification through a certified national program.
- Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk is preferred.
- Vaccination certification as required by law, if applicable.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds frequently; occasional bending, stooping, standing and walking.
- Visual requirements include various ranges and color vision; ability to perform tasks requiring depth perception.
This position may involve a fast-paced retail store environment with multiple tasks (filling scripts, answering phones, assisting customers). Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals/solvents when compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.
Equipment UsedPC with pharmacy software, printer, cash register, ordering system, balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier.
ConfidentialityMaintains the confidentiality of customer medical information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
