Job DescriptionThe Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, fabricates, dismantles, and repairs structures, formwork and fixtures of wood, metal forms and associated accessories. This position is hands‑on and field‑based, with a focus on forming and framing concrete structures used in highways, bridges, and municipal infrastructure.
Qualification Standards- Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Select type and size of related materials according to the job specifications.
- Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
- Select specified type of lumber or other materials.
- Prepare layouts including lines and grade.
- Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
- Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
- Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
- Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together.
- Fabricate from work then load, haul, and carry it to the job site and install per drawings, sketches, or plans.
- Place and finish concrete in formwork and set and align form panels.
- Set grout forms for epoxy and cement grout.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (assistance recommended for heavier loads).
- Work extended hours on foot, including on uneven or rough surfaces.
- Climb ladders, kneel, crawl, or work at heights and in confined spaces.
