This position is located at the George Washington Carver Center in Beltsville, MD.

Working hours are 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, Monday - Friday.

This is a full-time position with benefits, paying $20.14 per hour.

• Cuts lawns, using a hand mower or power mower.
• Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls, using clippers and edging tools.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears.
• Rakes leaves and cleans or sweeps up litter using a spiked stick or broom.
• Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
• Spreads salt on public passageways.
• Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or by activating a sprinkler system.
• Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts, using a shovel and rake.
• May operate power equipment like mowers, snowblowers, rototillers, or riding mowers.
• May operate chain saws, hedge trimmers, and other handheld power tools.
• May use tractors with attachments such as mowers, spreaders, and lawn rollers.
• Performs various laboring duties after yard work is completed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Supervised by the Grounds Foreman.

• Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for equal parts of the work time.
• Must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, and perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and handling.
• Ability to see and distinguish colors is required for operating equipment.
• Work is mainly outside, subject to extreme weather conditions and dust or debris.
• Heavy lifting of equipment and materials up to 100 pounds is occasionally required.

• At least 1 year of landscape maintenance experience, including mowing and weeding.
• Ability to provide own transportation.
• Ability to work independently.
