Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors and associates. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, polishing floors, and maintaining equipment and carts. The technician demonstrates knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients and staff.
Responsibilities may cover patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
Wear proper protective equipment following guidelines. Assist in laundry areas as appropriate and use Sanford technology applications when available.
Physical activities include use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. Ability to lift/move up to 40‑50 lb and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or ramps. Position requires being on feet for majority of shift. Exposure to noise acceptable.
Work hours may vary with patient needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends and holidays.
QualificationsNo formal education required.
Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility, including departmental meetings, safety education and mandatory in‑services.
Employee must have knowledge of day‑to‑day housekeeping tasks in various departments/areas and follow cleaning policy/procedure for each department and guidelines for use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.
