About the PracticeAnimal Care Clinic Bemidji has been providing comprehensive and compassionate care to pets in the Bemidji area since 1997.
About the RoleReporting to the Practice Manager, the Kennel Assistant provides care to patients visiting the practice for grooming and/or boarding. The Kennel Assistant ensures a clean and safe boarding area and walks, feeds, and administers medication to patients as needed.
Hours of OperationMon – Fri: 7:30am – 6:00pm
Sat: 8:00am – 12:00pm

- Patience & Compassion: Remaining professional while making doctors, teammates, clients, and patients feel comfortable regardless of challenges.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Coordinating actions with team members, incorporating feedback, and communicating outcomes to clients and teammates.
- Active Listening: Following clients’ expressed wishes.
- Client Satisfaction: Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
- Provides great care for patients visiting the practice for grooming and/or boarding.
- Ensures patients are admitted with client instructions and proper contact information.
- Accurately records feeding schedules, appearance, and behavior during visits.
- Observes patients for general condition and signs of illness.
- Properly restrains hard‑to‑control patients as needed.
- Walks patients several times a day to provide exercise.
- Applies knowledge of normal and special food/liquid requirements.
- Ensures patients are clean, fresh‑smelling, and checked by a technician/doctor before discharge.
- Manages cages, numbering, and storage of personal property.
- Regularly cleans, disinfects kennels, cages, runs, stalls, and hospital areas.
- Launders and dries towels and blankets.
- Maintains hospital grounds and removes trash and waste.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work on weekends as required.
- Previous veterinary experience preferred.
- Ability to lift patients up to 25 lbs; assistance for >25 lbs.
- Practices OSHA safety techniques and proper PPE.
