Primary Purpose

To be the first point of contact at the Barber Library Circulation desk and provide support to the Interlibrary Loan Department by carrying out interlibrary loan tasks & procedures. Provide support for the Barber Library Circulation, Interlibrary Loan ( ILL ), and entire Access Services Department staff (event support, cleaning, shelving).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide cordial, professional service to all library patrons.
  • Utilize complex library software applications to check out, check in, renew circulating library materials, and update patrons’ account status.
  • Provide critical opening & closing shift support.
  • Assist patrons in person or by phone with Course Reserve requests, item hold requests, general circulation, and library policy.
  • Provide pertinent directional information, referring patrons to appropriate departments and library personnel as applicable.
  • Learn Library of Congress call number protocol for shelving library items and shelf reading.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patron records, both personal and library use information.
  • Process local holds, Summit holds, article requests, and interlibrary loan requests.
  • Process incoming loans for COCC patrons in ALMA ILS & Tipasa systems.
  • Process lending returns & borrowing returns to the ILL department.
  • Handle request & processing tasks efficiently and meet deadlines for courier and mail.
  • Take direction from Library Specialist, Public Services/Library staff, or librarians in the absence of the Head of Access Services.
  • Special tasks and other projects as assigned.

Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 6 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
