DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARYThe Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line rles Health System provides ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient care for the health system as well as within ambulatory surgery centers. This service line includes approximately 60 providers representing the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery centers and clinics. The team will collaborate extensively with the Bend-hospital based acute surgery and trauma team in the development, refinement and collaboration of a robust trauma program designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Oregon community.
POSITIONOVERVIEW
Orthopedic Surgeons are responsible for providing medical, surgical, and postoperative management of patients having Orthopedic surgery. Each orthopedic surgeon will have a subspecialty focus to include one of the following:
Sports Medicine, Total Joints, Foot & Ankle, Hand, or Trauma. In some cases, surgeons will split their practice to include one or more sub-specialty area for their practice. Orthopedic surgeons will work in collaboration with other medical specialties to assess and manage patients following established standards and practices. This position will primarily work in the Bend and Redmond hospitals, Cascade Surgi Center and Bend Surgery Center performing elective and acute surgeries.
Orthopedic Surgeons also see patients in a clinical setting and work collaboratively with APPs in the care of patients. It is up to the physician to determine the appropriate site of care for each patient based on the patients medical presentation.
Physician will have roughly 32 patient facing hours per week as a 1.0
FTE which is prorated proportionate to their FTE. This will be a blend of hospital rounding, procedure block time and scheduled clinic visits including charting of patients and other necessary duties, recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate up and down based on direct patient care.
Surgeon is expected to participate in the orthopedic call rotation, which is shared equally by the participating Surgeons. If qualified, the physician may also participate in the Orthopedic Trauma room coverage.
Work locationPhysicians primary clinic work location will be in Bend, Redmond and may include some work in outreach clinics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIESMay perform additional duties of similar complexity within SCHS as required or assigned.
Clinical Expectations- Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broad scope of orthopedic conditions including conservative care and treatment, acute care and elective surgical procedures.
- May perform emergency procedures when on call or in clinic.
- Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective, and objective findings.
- Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures. May include reading and interpreting their own x-rays as part of the patient assessment.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis, and therapeutic plan.
- Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
- Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments.
- Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
- Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
- Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration. Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
- May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
- Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
- Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure.
- Participate in SCMG physicians meetings and assist in policy formation for SCMG and Physicians practice.
