Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill (a maximum of 24 hours per week) the Cascades Adventures Staff position at Oregon State University-Cascades (OSU - Cascades) located in Bend, Oregon. The OSU - Cascades, Cascades Adventures program is looking for students to serve as staff to facilitate programming and/or office-based work. If candidates begin facilitating programming, they will begin as an Assistant Trip Leader.
The nature of work allocated to staff, listed with Position Duties, can vary depending on programming and personal schedules for each term. Please note that your first spring term schedule of work will have very limited hours. The following fall term will include a more regular schedule with more consistent hours. We are looking for people who are excited to share their love of the outdoors and help instruct and facilitate the associated activities with others (including beginners).
This job is not for someone who is hoping to play outside while getting paid. You will be responsible for others’ safety and overall experience with Cascades Adventures.

Position Duties- Executes outing plan and lead student participants through various outdoor and adventure activities.
- Facilitates and leads programming for participants. Cascades Adventures staff are expected to be responsible for individuals on their programs and
- Facilitates an emotionally and physically safe environment for participants and fellow staff while being a positive role model.
- Deliver curriculum instruction on skills and topics pertinent to the programming activities.
- Follow all activity protocols, policies, procedures, risk management plans, and emergency action plan.
- Educates and ensures that all Cascades Adventures, OSU - Cascades, and OSU policies and rules are upheld including pertinent laws for all trip staff and participants alike.
- Effectively prepares Cascades Adventures programming by coordinating packing and inspecting equipment with fellow staff.
- Delivers professional first aid care when necessary.
- De-issuing, cleaning, and repairing all equipment with Cascades Adventures when applicable.
- Completing and submitting all the trip paperwork properly.
- Delivers post-trip debrief with professional and/or fellow staff.
- Delivers feedback to the program and fellow staff to continue positive growth and development.
- Prepares food for programming, including buying, packing, cooking, and cleaning up for meals for large groups.
- Assists with driving university vehicles to transport participants and equipment to and from programming locations. Driving university vehicles can include large passenger vans and trailers.
- Develops comprehensive plans for programs
- Scouts trip locations to assess conditions and appropriateness of proposed activities, goals, and learning outcomes.
- Develops lesson plans for activity-specific curriculum instruction.
- Establishes communication and leadership roles with all office and trip staff.
