Primary Purpose

Instructional Assistants will assist the paramedic course director in the education and evaluation of student performance in the lab experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with instruction in the paramedic course lab under the direction of the paramedic course director, paramedic lead instructor or designated faculty member.
  • Cooperate with other College personnel including the EMS program director in all aspects of the paramedic lab environment.
Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

  • Thorough knowledge in the field of paramedicine within the field of out-of-hospital emergency medicine.
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the Program Director, Paramedic Lead Instructor and other program staff and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Ability to work with Paramedicine Program Director, faculty, Department Chair, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Ergonomic Requirements

Work hours are determined by the supervisor and vary based on business needs and locations. Position assignments may be assigned an alternate schedule to service the campus needs. Work will primarily be performed inside classroom/lab settings with occasional outdoor activities. Extended standing required. Lifting of objects under 50 lbs. frequently needed with objects weighing over 100 lbs. t be able to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, and crouch.

Individuals must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
