Primary Purpose

The Paramedicine Program seeks a qualified individual to provide instruction in the first and second year curriculum leading to an AAS
-Paramedicine degree. Part-time instructor’s direct student education, direct student discussion and evaluate student performance in the classroom, lab, clinical and co-operative work experience sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction the Paramedicine curriculum, including EMT ; advanced- EMT ;
    Oregon EMT
    -intermediate; paramedic courses including lecture, lab, internship and clinical; communication and documentation; patient transport; and other related classes as needed. This includes providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, classes taught on any of the four campuses COCC serves, by interactive video chat technology.
  • Cooperate with the PSE Department efforts to revise and standardize curricula for these classes.
  • Attend regular trainings as scheduled by the department or College.
  • Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned.
  • Cooperate with other College personnel including the Paramedicine Program Director to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow‑up studies.
  • Act as a resource person for students. This includes allowing sufficient time either before or after scheduled classes for individual student conferences OR holding regular office hours and assisting the Program Director with advising responsibilities.
  • Work with appropriate College personnel to write proposals for program funds.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

  • Thorough knowledge of field of paramedicine within the field of out-of-hospital emergency medicine based on education and/or experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers, video chat technology (e.g. Zoom) and familiarity with or willingness to learn the learning management system ( LMS ) used at COCC.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.

Ergonomic Requirements
