Position: Product Engineer, Hydro Flask

Work Location: Bend, OR (work 3 days onsite)

At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in‑office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Any updates to this model will be communicated in advance. Please note that hybrid eligibility and schedules may vary based on business needs and manager expectations.

What

you will be doing:
  • Evaluating and directing functional and technical aspects of new products in collaboration with the internal design team, the product management team, and other engineering teams.
  • Cooperating with manufacturing partners in the production of new products in a wide range of materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Working with manufacturers and quality team to improve the quality of existing products.
  • Reviewing and critiquing designs received as CAD files from design team and soliciting feedback from manufacturers.
  • Working with design and manufacturing engineering team to create robust products using tools like tolerance stack analysis, DFMEA, etc.
  • Preparing designs for quoting by preparing bills of materials, functional/quality requirements, and key manufacturing questions.
  • Collaborating with product managers to review and compare quotes from multiple manufacturers.
  • Meeting with design team to provide insight on design decisions as they relate to material selection, manufacturing methods, assembly methods, and cost.
  • Reviewing and critiquing pre‑production samples from manufacturers.
  • Managing and updating product data once tools are made, including CAD, drawings, and parts lists.
  • Ensuring that new products meet standards of performance and quality by reviewing dimensional data from pre‑production samples, as well as by designing product testing procedures and conducting testing.
  • Approving product for mass production when acceptable quality is achieved.
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate ideas through sketches and e‑mail, and work well as part of a larger team.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects at various phases of development at the same time.
  • General shop and prototyping skills such as measuring, cutting, drilling, gluing, sanding, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering, product engineering, or materials science or equivalent field.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in related field.
  • Intermediate knowledge of either Solid Works CAD software.
  • Knowledge of common consumer product materials such as plastics, metals, silicone, and fasteners.
  • Knowledge of common consumer product manufacturing methods such as plastic injection molding, metal fabrication, metal CNC machining, overmolding, and/or silicone molding.
  • Knowledge of common assembly/joining methods such as plastic snap design, overmolding, ultrasonic welding, and common metal components such as screws, pins, springs, etc.
  • Ability to travel internationally to Asia (10%) as needed.
  • Software knowledge in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
