Certified Nursing Assistant - Ortho Neuro
St. Charles Health System – Bend, OR
Essential Functions and Duties- Review and follow directions for patient care within scope.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and mobilization.
- Provide personal hygiene care and ensure patients’ dignity and comfort.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and notify appropriate staff for assistance.
- Accurately measure and record vital signs—blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation—and report abnormalities.
- Assist with repositioning in bed, ambulation, and transferring to/from beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Support fall prevention strategies and ensure safety during patient movement.
- Alert nursing staff if there is a change in condition or if behavior requires outside intervention.
- Provide a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests and support nursing team safety initiatives.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, maintain cleanliness, disinfect equipment, and use PPE appropriately.
- Maintain competency in supportive care, operate equipment safely, and carry out nursing orders within scope.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) per hospital and regulatory standards.
- Transport patients, blood, specimens, and other items as needed.
- Interrupt and re‑establish nasogastric (NG) suction.
- Place electrodes or leads and run electrocardiogram (EKG) or telemetry.
- Suction nose or oral pharynx.
- Manage traction equipment—removing and re‑applying.
- Apply and remove continuous passive motion (CPM) machine.
- Receive and transmit messages (personal, telephone, computer) or inquiries.
- Assist with data input using EMR, staffing and charge capture systems, electronic bedboard, charge entry, and reconciliation.
- Perform general administrative duties—emails, filing, ordering supplies, etc.
- Stock nurse servers in patient rooms and specialty carts or areas routinely.
- Assist in equipment maintenance and order departmental non‑medical supplies.
- Help with scheduling and operational processes as directed by leadership.
- Schedule/cancel patient appointments.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities, daily huddles, and departmental initiatives.
- Engage in professional growth and development of self and others.
- Promote patient independence, respect privacy, and uphold patient rights.
- Communicate effectively—written and oral—maintaining professional relationships.
- Identify work‑related problems, propose solutions, and implement them within scope.
- Contribute to a healing environment and support organizational vision, mission, and values.
- Champion Lean continuous improvement principles.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with laws and policies.
- Deliver customer service and patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.
Specific Duties
- Drive vehicle safely to all locations.
- Enter patient homes, assisted living, long‑term care residences, jails, or other designated locations; comply with facility protocol and agency guidelines.

As required by certification; completion of SCHS CNA training course within 45 days of hire. - Preferred: N/A

Certified Nursing Assistant with the Oregon State Board of Nursing; AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification; valid Oregon driver’s license (Home Health/Hospice/Wound caregivers only). - Preferred: N/A

- Preferred: CNA or other previous patient care experience; customer service and clerical experience.
