Medical Assistant - Orthopedic
St. Charles Health System – Bend, Oregon
Pay range: $24.44 – $30.55 hourly, varies with experience.
Position OverviewThe Medical Assistant will manage daily patient flow for each physician they support, use triage skills to capture patient information, anticipate the physician's needs, and facilitate high‑quality care. The role does not manage other caregivers.
Essential Functions and Duties- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for physician assessment.
- Record and maintain patients’ medical data in the chart.
- Assist physicians with answering phone requests from patients or other healthcare professionals.
- Perform physician‑requested ancillary or surgical patient procedures (excluding IV medication administration).
- Maintain equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels.
- Support the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
- Champion Lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
- Conduct all activities with professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Deliver customer service and patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.
- Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Required: Current MA certification (AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA) or licensure as an intermediate/paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
- Ability to travel to business functions, trainings, meetings, and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
- Preferred: Current American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification.
- Required: Basic knowledge of ICD‑10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures; working knowledge of medical practice management information systems; basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards; confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Candidates with NHA certification based on work experience rather than program graduation must have 1 year of Medical Assisting experience.
- Preferred: Two (2) years of Medical Assisting experience.
- Eligible if you have 1+ years of licensed experience and have not been employed by St. Charles Health System in the last 6 months.
