Nurse (Mental Health Treatment Coordinator)

Pay and Benefits- Base pay range: $93,416.00/yr – $/yr
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) eligibility – up to $200,000 (determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office). Former participants are ineligible.

- Paid time off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays)

- English language proficiency – basic written and spoken English required
- Graduate of a VA‑approved professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE
- OR master’s level bridge program candidate with bachelor's‑level coursework (may be licensed prior to completion)
- Upon state licensure, candidate may receive temporary appointment, later converted to permanent after successful completion of the bridge program
- Reference VA Handbook 5005 – Appendix G6
- OR foreign school graduate with full, active, unrestricted registration in a U.S. state, territory or Commonwealth (including Puerto Rico) – may need documented equivalency validation via ICD
- Graduate Nurse Technician Exception: candidates meeting basic education but lacking licensure may be appointed at entry step for 120‑day temporary appointment, extendable up to two years
- Grandfathering provision:

- Physical requirements:

- Nurse I, Level I – fundamental, knowledge‑based care;
Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma; no additional experience required - Nurse I, Level II – integrates biopsychosocial concepts; ADN/Diploma with 1 yr specialized experience equivalent to Level I OR BSN with no additional experience
- Nurse I, Level III – deliberate planning and goal‑setting; ADN/Diploma with 2 yrs experience OR BSN with 1 yr specialized experience OR MSN/other master’s with no experience;
Masters in related field with BSN allowed - Nurse II – leadership in holistic care; BSN with 2 yrs experience equivalent to Level III OR MSN with 1 yr experience OR related master’s with BSN; or Doctoral in Nursing with no experience;
Doctoral in related field with BSN allowed - Nurse III – leadership in complex client care; MSN with 2 yrs specialized experience (one Level II equivalent) OR related master’s with BSN and 2 yrs specialized experience;
Doctoral in Nursing with 1 yr Level II experience; or Doctoral in related field with BSN and 1 yr Level II experience
- Serve as the Mental Health Treatment Coordinator for Veterans in the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team
- Oversee population‑based interventions and metrics to track and enhance care for all Veterans served
- Provide rapid triage and assessment of Veteran needs; develop treatment plans; engage Veterans in goal planning, evaluation, and intervention
- Coordinate with specialty mental health, primary care, and community resources to facilitate warm hand‑offs and act as liaison for Veteran across care levels
- Educate Veterans and family members on available services; assist in referrals based on preferences or surrogate decision‑maker
- Document nursing triage assessments, risk screens, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care per facility policy
