Teacher Active is proud to be working with a specialist SEND school in the Benfleet area that is looking to appoint a dedicated PMLD Class Teacher on a full-time, permanent basis from January 2027.
The school supports pupils with a range of complex learning and additional needs and places a strong emphasis on personalised learning, communication and holistic development. The successful Teacher will work closely with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, healthcare professionals and families to ensure each pupil receives the individual support they require.
The role would suit an experienced SEND Teacher or a mainstream Teacher who has a genuine passion for working with pupils with complex needs. Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and ECTs with the right attitude and enthusiasm for specialist education.
The successful PMLD Class Teacher will be responsible for:Planning and delivering engaging, sensory-rich and highly personalised lessons
Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs
Leading and supporting a classroom team of Learning Support Assistants
Adapting teaching approaches to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plan / EHCP outcomes
Supporting pupils with communication, interaction and engagement
Working collaboratively with therapists, healthcare professionals and other specialist staff
Monitoring and recording pupil progress, including small but meaningful developmental achievements
Building positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers
Contributing to Annual Reviews and wider pupil development meetings
Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and pupil wellbeing
QTS / Qualified Teacher Status
Experience with in SEND, PMLD, SLD or another specialist education setting is desirable
A strong understanding of differentiated and individualised learning
Confidence working with pupils with complex learning and communication needs
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A patient, nurturing and resilient approach
The ability to lead and support classroom support staff effectively
A genuine passion for helping pupils with SEND reach their individual potential
