Underground Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a Project Manager to oversee assigned construction projects, serving as the primary contact with owners/clients, and managing cost estimates, contracts, schedules, subcontracts, change orders, RFIs, and submittals.
OverviewProject managers manage construction projects, foster relationships with all parties, generate and monitor cost estimates, prime contracts, schedules, subcontracts, and owner/subcontractor change orders, RFIs, and process submittals. We are looking for a candidate with at least 8 years of experience running large projects primarily on the contractor side, with knowledge of utility infrastructure construction, especially electric transmission duct bank installation in urban environments.
A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields is preferred but not required.
- Work alongside Division Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to plan and direct activities in conjunction with road and site construction project plans.
- Coordinate cost estimates and verify bid source files.
- Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre‑bid meetings, and generate necessary RFIs.
- Perform material take‑offs and calculations; determine required materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors.
- Monitor and control projects administratively to meet schedule and budget.
- Represent the company in project meetings and strategy sessions.
- Manage financial aspects of contracts in collaboration with the contract administrator.
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff, workers, and clients.
- Uphold all company safety practices and wear appropriate PPE in the field.
- Formulate reports on progress, cost, and scheduling.
- Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related major.
- 8+ years of utility construction project management experience.
- Strong estimation and cost proposal development skills.
- Excellent time‑management, prioritizing, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Project and Excel.
- Team‑building, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Travel to job sites; must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating Project Engineers and Project Coordinators; address performance issues and recommend personnel actions.
- Supervise a small number of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.
- Work performed at project sites and office or trailer; occasional lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Sedentary work primarily, with walking and standing occasionally.
Pay: $122,000 – $150,000 per year, depending on experience.
