Manager, Continuous Improvement
Location:
Bennettsville, South Carolina, United States – Full‑time, permanent position.
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager drives operational excellence by instilling a continuous improvement mindset. Fluent in lean manufacturing, the candidate will employ lean tools (6 Sigma, FMEA, SPC, DMAIC) and HPI to resolve problems, eliminate waste, inspire the workforce, track cost savings, and coordinate with the Corporate CI team to ensure alignment.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and eliminate waste:
- Over processing – Use SPC to maintain control.
- Waiting – Build a 5S system to organize tools and processes.
- Defects – Ensure quality aspects are understood and monitored.
- Inventory – Organize systems to maintain controls for production materials.
- Utilize lean tools to drive continuous improvement:
- 6 Sigma – Use statistical analysis for process performance.
- DMAIC & FMEA – Identify long‑term improvement projects.
- Lead team efforts to find root causes and permanent solutions.
- Root‑cause analysis and corrective action tracking:
- Use Domtar problem‑solving methodologies to identify root causes.
- Track solutions in the Enablon system.
- Organizational effectiveness:
- Engage and inspire workforce to empower decision‑making.
- Build tools and systems for employee decision support.
- Work effectively with all organizational levels.
- Instill a sustainable continuous‑improvement mindset.
- Educate employees on lean manufacturing tools.
- Cost savings:
- Develop annual cost‑reduction targets and drive the process.
- Collaborate with the Mill Finance team on the cost‑reduction spreadsheet.
- Identify and execute cost‑reduction projects.
- Corporate CI initiatives:
- Collaborate with Corporate CI to implement initiatives at the mill level.
- Build a working relationship to bring corporate learnings back to the mill.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Pulp and Paper Science or Chemical Engineering, preferred); equivalent experience may be considered.
- Five (5) years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferred superintendent level or above.
- 6 Sigma certification (minimum green belt, black belt preferred).
- Lean manufacturing experience.
- Effective communication with employees at all mill levels.
- High degree of collaboration with mill leadership.
- Ability to prioritize time and multi‑task.
- Effective communication with employees at all levels.
- Simultaneous project management.
- Good knowledge of mill operations.
- Strong Microsoft skills, especially Excel and Minitab.
- Proficiency with problem‑solving and corrective action tools.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and related tools.
