JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Youth Advocate
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
LOCATION: Benton Harbor Area Schools
JOB SUMMARY:
The Youth Advocate works under the direction of the building administration carrying a caseload of students who have been identified for behavioral support. The primary function of the Youth Advocate is to have a continuous check on students who are struggling with various challenges that interrupt their education (i.e. attendance monitoring, making sure they are in class, etc.,). Additionally, Youth Advocates continuously monitor the halls for the safety of students to help meet all of their needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree in any Behavioral Science
Knowledge of the MTSS model and to monitor student behaviors in and out of the classroom
Demonstrated skills working with students in a behavioral setting.
Strong interpersonal skills
PREFERRED
SKILLS:
Bachelor's Degree in any Behavioral Science
Experience working with behavioral challenging students
Effective communication skills
English/Spanish Bilingual
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Takes on a caseload of students and provides detailed logs, to show that students are regularly attending class and are decreasing in behavioral disruptions
- Works with building administration or MTSS Specialist to identify students that have difficulty with behaviors in classes to help the MTSS Specialist to prescribe a plan of action.
- Support classroom teachers by contacting parents and ensuring students are where they should be at the time they should be in respective classes.
- Provides a safe time out space for disruptive students.
- Conducts frequent phone calls to parents to inquire about attendance and notify of recurrence of disruptive behaviors.
- Monitor the school grounds for student safety.
Terms of Employment:
Salary based on education and experience pursuant to the Board approval.
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated by the MTSS Specialist and/or the Building Administrator.
