Job Summary:
The duties for this position include teaching chemistry courses in a high school setting, developing lesson plans, providing individualized and small group instruction, and establishing a productive classroom environment. Responsibilities also encompass maintaining student behavior, ensuring safe lab practices, and managing grades using Canvas or other record‑keeping tools.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement (DX, DI, DP, or DC) or eligibility for a full‑year permit and BHAS Teacher‑in‑Training Pathway
- At least two (2) years of successful teaching experience
- Familiarity with virtual/online learning
- Ability to incorporate technology into instructional delivery
- Strong academic preparation and leadership ability
- Strong communication skills
- Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban school district
- Master’s degree in Education
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience
- Implement instructional activities that foster active, meaningful learning experiences in the chemistry classroom
- Follow all safety measures to conduct lab experiments
- Use Canvas as a resource to extend learning for students
- Maintain effective record‑keeping procedures, including a paper or electronic gradebook
- Collaborate effectively with grade‑level, department, and interdisciplinary teams
- Integrate the writing process and expository writing to enhance teaching and learning
- Use technology as an instructional tool to enhance teaching and learning
- Apply cooperative learning and flexible grouping strategies
- Develop an interdisciplinary approach to deliver instructional outcomes
- Use assessment to differentiate instruction
- Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences
- Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment appropriate to students’ learning styles and needs
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Update records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding progress and needs
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee

Competitive teacher salary. Salary is based on education and experience pursuant to the Benton Harbor Area School Board policies and collective bargaining agreement for positions under collective bargaining.
