Assistant Football Coach – Benton Harbor Area Schools

Athletic Director and Head Football Coach

The BHAS athletic coaches promote an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Assistant Football Coach provides leadership and supervision for the team and works closely with the other coaching staff members and the administration of the school.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma
- Successful high‑school playing career
- Minimum 2 years of high‑school coaching experience as JV Head Coach, Varsity Offensive or Defensive Coordinator, or Top Assistant
- Ability to motivate students to work as a team
- Ability to coach in an urban school district
- College playing experience is a plus
- College degree
- Teaching credential, any subject
- Coach and supervise the program from middle school to varsity football
- Encourage multi‑sport athletes
- Provide training rules to all athletes
- Understand and follow MHSAA policies, rules, and guidelines at all times
- Be a positive role model and mentor to student‑athletes
- Evaluate all coaches in the program
- Attend all MHSAA, athletic department, and league meetings as needed
- Promote a program of teamwork and sportsmanship
- Design training and practice team programs
- Manage and submit all transportation trips for away events
- Coordinate all out-of-season team workouts
- Organize and supervise the auxiliary coaching staff to ensure proper program implementation
- Ensure all athletic activities conform to the BHAS Student Handbook and Athletic Handbook
- Communicate effectively with all members of the athletic department, school district, and community
- Work effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations, if applicable
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
- Ensure student‑athletes adhere to training rules, grade policies, and behavior rules
- Supervise student‑athletes during games, conditioning, and in the locker/shower room
- Stay abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques
- Support the value of an education
- Maintain and manage all athletic equipment, including purchasing, inventory, repair, and maintenance
- Communicate results of games, statistics, and season successes to local news agencies
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach
Stipend position. This position is hired through a third‑party vendor, EDUStaff.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and the Head Football Coach.
