The PET/CT Technologist is responsible for performing nuclear medicine imaging and therapy, including PET/CT scans, to ensure high-quality diagnostic images. This role involves patient education, positioning, and monitoring during procedures, as well as handling radiopharmaceuticals according to safety protocols. The technologist analyzes imaging results, addresses quality issues, and maintains clinical supplies while adhering to regulatory standards and organizational policies. A minimum of 2 years of nuclear medicine experience and relevant certifications are required.
Responsibilities:- Review patient history and physician orders to plan imaging procedures.
- Educate patients about procedures, equipment, and exam expectations to ensure cooperation.
- Position patients and perform imaging procedures tailored to patient age and abilities.
- Perform nuclear medicine imaging and therapy in compliance with scope of practice and policies.
- Analyze imaging results and resolve quality issues by repositioning patients or repeating scans as necessary.
- Enter, transmit, and report scan results accurately.
- Order, prepare, administer, store, and dispose of radiopharmaceuticals following established protocols and regulations.
- Continuously monitor patient condition and respond to changes appropriately.
- Maintain inventory of supplies in the Clinical Nuclear Medicine rooms.
Certifications:
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by NMTCB or Radiologic Technologist (RT) certified in Nuclear Medicine by ARRT.
- ARRT CT certification with continuing education credits.
- New York State License.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of 2 years of nuclear medicine technologist experience.
- CT certification and PET/CT experience.
Certifications:
- Experience with GE PET or Philips PET scanners.
- No weekend, holiday, or on-call duties.
- Work environment requires adherence to radiation safety and handling of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Monday through Friday, with varying shifts of either 7:00 AM 3:30 PM or 9:30 AM 6:30 PM.
