Manager, Automation Engineering

What you’ll do...Role summary:
The Manager, Automation Engineering leads the strategy, design, and planning of storage capacity solutions across the Ambient First Mile network. This role leads the design of storage densification solutions, develops capacity roadmaps, and identifies innovative approaches to maximize asset utilization across the network while maintaining flexibility for future business needs. This position combines engineering, network design, analytics, and capital planning expertise to evaluate storage capacity requirements, develop scalable solutions, and drive investment decisions.

The manager leads the end-to-end lifecycle of capacity enhancement initiatives, including concept development, business case creation, vendor selection, capital approval, and implementation handoff.

This team leads Ambient First Mile design and strategy, focusing on scaling capacity, optimizing costs, and enhancing availability to improve service across the network. They utilize data analysis, automation, and continuous process improvement to drive operational excellence. Collaborating across functions, the team implements innovative solutions that support supply chain efficiency goals. Their efforts ensure seamless integration of automation technologies and ongoing workflow enhancements, contributing to Walmart’s commitment to delivering consistent value and reliable service throughout the network.

• Lead the Ambient First Mile storage strategy and long-range capacity roadmap.
• Design and evaluate storage densification solutions to increase capacity and asset utilization.
• Develop business cases, seek capital approval, and lead vendor selection for storage capacity investments.
• Create data-driven network storage strategies that support SKU growth and evolving inventory needs.
• Assess and refine SKU management alternatives to maximize network flexibility and utilization.
• Partner with operations, finance, real estate, and technology teams to align capacity investments with network strategy.
• Use analytics and scenario modeling to identify constraints, prioritize opportunities, and guide investment decisions.

• Experience developing network capacity strategies, storage solutions, or supply chain facility designs.
• Strong data analytics and modeling skills, with the ability to evaluate capacity needs, utilization, and long-term growth scenarios.
• Experience developing business cases, performing financial analysis, and securing capital investment approvals.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects, managing timelines, risks, and stakeholder alignment from concept through approval and implementation.
• Knowledge of supply chain network design, inventory management, and SKU storage strategies that optimize asset utilization.
• Experience leading vendor evaluations, solution selection, and cross-functional decision-making processes.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align engineering, operations, finance, and technology partners around strategic recommendations.
