Title:

Pre‑K Instructional Aide for Excellent Beginnings at Wildcat Way

Location:

Excellent Beginnings at Wildcat Way, Bentonville, AR

Reports To: Lead Teacher, then Site Supervisor

Qualifications: 18 years or older with a high school diploma, Child Development Associate Credential, and prior experience in childcare

Job Goals

Supervised by and directly responsible to the Lead Teacher, then to the Site Supervisor, the Instructional Aide will perform specialized tasks in classroom matters, provide instructional assistance for the teacher(s) and work directly with children in the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interactions with Children
  • Plans for and implements pleasant arrivals and departures.
  • Uses routines to build relationships and learning opportunities.
  • Shows respect for children and encourages respectful interactions.
  • Uses language to build relationships and strengthen the child’s social and emotional competencies.
  • Uses indirect and direct guidance techniques.
  • Supports children as they learn to resolve their own conflicts.
  • Strives to meet each child’s individual needs.
  • Accompanies assigned children and knows counts at all times.
Activities and Environment
  • Maintains a clean, organized, inviting environment that is safe and developmentally appropriate.
  • Plans and implements a variety of engaging learning experiences in all areas of development for assigned children.
  • Uses the outdoors as part of the learning environment.
  • Teaches and provides guidance in the development of good health habits.
  • Follows the daily schedule to meet the needs of the children.
  • Accepts responsibility for shared space.
  • Continually rotates and sanitizes materials and disposes of broken or recalled items.
  • Assists in completion of assessments.
  • Assists in the submission, maintenance and organization of portfolios.
  • Assists Lead Teacher in the implementation of approved curriculum.
  • Lifts 10–30 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Meets program requirements for attendance as outlined in the personnel handbook.
  • Submits time off and clocks in/out at assigned time in Frontline. Is punctual.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and follows the dress code.
  • Open to new ideas and suggestions for working with individual children. Take initiative.
  • Accepts responsibility for job‑related tasks, including any documentation and/or record keeping.
  • Attends all staff meetings and meets program expectations for professional development (30 hours annually).
  • Knows and is able to follow emergency procedures and risk management protocol.
  • Keeps Lead Teacher/Site Supervisor apprised of groups and individual children’s status.
  • Completes all Better Beginnings requirements.
  • Accepts all assignments given by supervisors.
  • Maintains all program requirements: minimum licensing, program policies, and quality expectations.
  • Completes yearly self‑evaluation.
  • Uses good judgment and keeps information confidential.
  • Handles child guidance and discipline issues as needed.
Interactions with Parents and Staff
  • Works to build positive relationships with parents, co‑workers and others.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, co‑workers and others daily; avoids gossip.
  • Works as a part of a team with concern for the entire program and is flexible.
  • Assists in planning family involvement activities to strengthen families.

Additional qualifications include enjoyment of young children, good mental and physical health, respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to complete training requirements, and willingness to undergo regulatory checks required by law.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated based on the Child Enrichment Services Personnel Handbook and District Classified Personnel Evaluation.
