We are seeking a highly analytical and collaborative Category Advisor to join our team. This role is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights that support strategic decision‑making and drive business growth across key retail accounts. As part of a high‑performing team, this role plays a critical part in growing the motor oil category, with a focus on Mobil 1—the leading brand in synthetic motor oil.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, visualization, and customer engagement. This position is based in Bentonville, AR, and reports to the Strategy and Insights Manager.

Bentonville, AR

• Shape category strategy for Exxon Mobil by analyzing market trends, shopper behavior, and competitive activity to define priorities and growth opportunities
• Develop strategic recommendations for assortment, pricing, and merchandising that influence both internal decisions and retailer strategies
• Analyze and visualize point‑of‑sale, syndicated, and internal data to uncover actionable insights and trends
• Translate complex data into compelling narratives that support strategic planning and customer growth initiatives
• Support account teams with category insights and assortment recommendations, and develop concept planograms to bring strategies to life
• Lead space‑to‑sales analysis and promotional effectiveness reviews to optimize performance across retail channels
• Create and deliver insight‑driven presentations for line reviews, joint business planning, and category leadership discussions with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Marketing, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management
• Advanced in MS Office, including advanced Excel skills and strong PowerPoint capabilities for clear, compelling communication
• Advanced in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and JDA Space Planning
• Strong analytical and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex data
• Experience working with syndicated data sources and retailer POS systems to extract insights and drive category recommendations
• Solid understanding of databases, with a preference for candidates experienced in SQL for querying and managing large datasets
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment
• Willingness to travel as needed
• Experience with a variety of categories and/or retailers
• Ability to present insights to internal stakeholders and external customers in a clear and engaging manner
