Senior, Software Engineer - AI

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and forward‑thinking Senior Software & AI Engineer to join our team and lead the development of scalable, intelligent data solutions. This role blends traditional data engineering with cutting‑edge AI capabilities to support advanced analytics, forecasting, and operational reporting in a multi‑cloud retail environment. You will work on building robust data pipelines, deploying AI‑powered workflows, and integrating agentic systems to drive business outcomes.

Everyone has data, but the sheer volume of data at Walmart can be limitless. In the Data Engineering team, we help Walmart manage this data by building pipelines and data lakes to prepare big data for analysis and unlocking actionable insights in real‑time. We also use cross‑departmental data and machine learning to build a holistic view of true profitability, saving millions of dollars across item categories and geographies while assisting our leadership in making better decisions faster.

• Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Py Spark ,
  Apache Spark
  , and Airflow for orchestration.
• Develop and deploy workflows on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Dataproc
  , Cloud Scheduler
  , Cloud Storage
  , and Big Query
  .
• Implement multi‑cloud data architectures integrating Azure
  , GCP
  , and Snowflake for data lakes and warehouses.
• Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance using tools like Apache Hudi
  , Git Hub Actions
  , and Terraform
  .
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support retail analytics
  , forecasting
  , and operational reporting
  .
• Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and reliability across environments.
• Build and deploy RAG‑based AI solutions for intelligent document retrieval and contextual response generation.
• Integrate Lang Chain and Lang Graph frameworks to orchestrate complex AI workflows and multi‑agent systems.
• Develop Agentic AI capabilities to automate decision‑making and enhance data‑driven insights.
• Leverage Vertex AI
  , Cloud Functions
  , and Dataflow to operationalize machine learning models and AI agents.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and adopt new digital tools and methodologies.

• Strong proficiency in Python

• Hands‑on experience with GCP services

  Dataproc, Big Query, Cloud Functions, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Vertex AI.
• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory

• Experience with CI/CD tools

  Jenkins, Git Hub, Azure Dev Ops.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing

  .
• Practical experience with Lang Chain

  , RAG architectures
  , and Agentic AI systems
  .
• Knowledge of retail domain data flows and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science
  , Engineering
  , or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering/software engineering
  , with at least 4 years on GCP
  .
• Google Professional Data Engineer certification is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work with integrity, respect for individuals, and a customer‑first mindset.
• Proven track record of collaboration, continuous learning, and striving for excellence.
