Overview

The Executive Director (ED) of Student Success will oversee all aspects of the College’s Office of Student Success, Disability and Accessibility Services, and Writing Resources to help Berea’s diverse student body retain and succeed. The ED will foster growth of a cohesive hub for student success that inspires engagement, learning, and skill-building to support students’ retention and persistence to graduation. The ED collaborates closely with campus areas responsible for student success, including Academic Affairs, the First-Year Experience team, the Labor Program Office, Student Life, Athletics, and faculty and staff to ensure that student success policies and procedures are followed and remain relevant for current and future students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direction, oversight, and vision to the operations of the Office of Student Success, Disability and Accessibility Services, and Writing Resources, including communications to students, faculty, and staff; proactive retention and success programming; student intervention efforts;
    Universal Design; accommodations; and writing resources best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar, Dean of Curriculum, and Provost on implementation of academic policy and related exceptions, including disability accommodations and campus accessibility.
  • Provide leadership and planning for Student Success and Transition operations, including proactive retention and success programming; student intervention efforts; cognitive and non-cognitive skill development programming; and programming related to student academic progress and planning.
  • Assist in planning, implementation, assessment, and reporting on student retention and success initiatives, including integrating accessibility into student success strategies, academic advising models, course design, and institutional planning.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Academic Affairs to pilot, implement, and oversee new initiatives and policies related to student success as appropriate.
  • Represent the hub on committees and provide input and guidance on policies and decisions related to student academic support and student success.
  • Meet with students on issues related to academic progress and educational success, implementing academic policy in coordination with the Registrar, Dean of Curriculum, and Provost.
  • Remain up to date on laws, regulations, and best practices for providing accommodations and services to students with disabilities, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504, as well as development programs that support writing and learning.
  • Provide support during critical events and emergencies as needed in coordination with Student Life.
  • Supervise student labor programs in support of Berea College’s commitments, including scheduling, assigning, and approving student work; developing students’ workplace acumen; and providing tangible work experience.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Master’s degree in higher education or a related field required
  • Experience
    :
    • At least 5 years of experience developing and overseeing student success programming
    • At least 5 years of experience working directly with a diverse student body, including first-generation students and those who require additional academic support
    • At least 3 years of experience with disability and accessibility services in a higher education setting
    • Classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Special skills, knowledge and abilities

    • Ability to analyze data and develop data-driven retention and intervention
