Support departmental efficiencies by managing scheduling, registration, pre‑admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. Obtain complete patient demographic data and employ compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
Responsibilities- Greet patients following Conifer Standards of Care, provide world‑class customer service, complete full patient registration at date of service, and adhere to financial & cash control policies & procedures.
- Secure Hospital & patient legal forms (Advance Directives, Conditions of Services, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, etc.), scan Protected Health Information, and create & file patient information packets for upcoming services.
- Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and provide appointment instructions to customers.
- Educate patients about financial liabilities and perform Hospital cash reconciliation & secure payment entry in accordance with financial & cash control policies & procedures.
- Secure medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, verify insurance, benefits, coverage, & eligibility, complete assigned registration financial clearance work lists, obtain insurance authorizations for scheduled & unscheduled services, and secure inpatient visit notifications to payors.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating post‑discharge care for patients.
- Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm.
- Working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer.
- Customer service skills and experience.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent oral & written communication skills.
- Understanding of Third‑Party Payor requirements (preferred).
- Understanding of compliance standards (preferred).
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.
- Negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by patients/guarantors.
- Collaborative relationship building with internal & external clients.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 0–1 year Customer Service experience.
- 0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area (preferred).
- Some college coursework (preferred).
- Sit at computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Resolve physician office and patient issues; may experience extreme patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
- Occasionally lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
- Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility problems.
- Hospital administration settings.
- Potential exposure to life‑threatening patient conditions.
Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.
