About METR

METR assesses AI capabilities, risks and mitigations, with a specific focus on threats related to autonomy, AI R&D automation, and alignment. This primarily means advancing the science of AI measurement, with a particular focus on understanding frontier AI systems’ ability to complete complex tasks without human input. It also involves executing those measurements, directly assessing the capability of frontier AI systems, to inform risk assessments and consensus within the AI industry, among policymakers, and the public.

About the role

This role will provide shared administrative support across METR’s leadership and operations teams. It is a critical, high-impact role responsible for optimizing the leaders’ focus by managing logistics, communication workflows, and core administrative needs. You will be key in ensuring our leaders spend their time on the highest impact, mission-critical work while also dedicating capacity to support core operations.

What You'll Do:
  • Executive/Administrative support for ~4 members of METR’s leadership team:
  • Serve as each individual’s primary point of contact; manage and optimize inboxes, calendars, and scheduling; direct requests, flag important items, and ensure timely follow-up on delegated tasks
  • Maintain and organize a system to efficiently triage and handle communications (Slack & email), surfacing priorities and deadlines, drafting replies, and ensuring clear and timely action
  • Serve as a daily prioritization partner, sounding board, and reliable accountability partner
  • Proactively identify opportunities to build repeatable administrative workflows, develop more efficient processes, or otherwise scale your support across the leadership team and broader organization
  • Provide flexible assistance to the leadership team on various projects and operational needs, e.g. data organization and tracking, event logistics, travel coordination
  • Support the Ops team on generalist projects:
  • Organizational logistics: assist with large-scale projects, e.g. team offsites and event planning, office management and reconfiguration
  • Ad-hoc support: execute on operational initiatives and processes across the organization, e.g. coordinating immigration processes, facilitating external visits or speaking engagements
We believe you'll be successful in this role if you:
  • Have 3+ years of experience in administrative or executive assistance, operations or project coordination, or similar role where you have provided support to a team or individual
  • Have expert prioritization skills, with demonstrated ability to manage and adapt to conflicting deadlines and shifting priorities from multiple stakeholders
  • Are a resourceful and adaptable problem solver, with high autonomy and proactivity in anticipating needs, building & improving processes, and making sound decisions when faced with ambiguous requests
  • Are highly detail-oriented and organized, demonstrating exceptional precision in scheduling, managing complex logistics, and documenting and structuring information
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills, able to adapt your messaging appropriately to different internal and external audiences
  • Are comfortable voicing your opinions and pushing back constructively, while knowing when to escape, defer, or seek additional guidance
  • Have an ownership and service mindset; you take on the organization’s goals as your own, proactively driving for continuous improvement; you are eager to identify organizational pain points and take initiative to surface solutions that add value to the team
  • Are comfortable working under pressure while juggling time-sensitive requests and multiple competing priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrate excellent discretion and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive information, balancing confidentiality with transparency
Nice-to-haves:
  • Previous experience working in startups or fast-paced environments
  • Experience working with Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Google Calendar) and Slack
  • Familiarity with the AI Safety landscape and community culture

$106,000 - $123,000 a year
