Overview
The Dental Van Driver operates the Dental Van that supports Life Long’s dental providers and staff in providing dental care for our School-Based Health Programs within Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, as well as our Street Dentistry program in collaboration with our Street Medicine team. In coordination with the School-Based Health Services Manager and under the direction of the Chief Dental Officer, a successful candidate will ensure efficient, continuous operation of the Dental Van to meet service-level goals.
This is a full time, benefit eligible position.

Responsibilities- Works with dental clinic managers, community organizations, and schools to use the Dental Van effectively. Assists Dental Van site visits and oral health awareness events.
- Oversees the planned arrival and use of the Dental Van and collaborates with host organizations to ensure successful site visits.
- Drives the Dental Van to designated sites where services will be provided.
- Breaks down the Dental Van at the end of the site visit and drives it back to the designated van storage facility.
- Monitors the capacity of the Dental Van to provide needed services. Addresses needs and issues with Chief Dental Officer
- Distributes health education materials and information about Life Long Medical Care’s oral health programs to community members visiting the Dental Van.
- Uses appropriate incident reporting procedures when documenting unsafe or otherwise problematic incidents involving patients or staff.
- Performs routine vehicle maintenance functions to keep the Dental Van in good working condition. Maintenance includes but is not limited to: refilling diesel fuel, diesel exhaust fluid, and potable water; dumping garbage and wastewater; arranging for weekly interior cleaning weekly and washing/detailing as needed.
- Performs all necessary vehicle safety and operational checks and maintains a vehicle maintenance log (including financial records for refueling, etc.) according to established schedules.
- Diagnoses and resolves basic mechanical issues with the Dental Van; identifies complex issues and submits requests to Facilities Department and external vendors as needed.
- Assist in re-stocking non-dental supply inventory and ensure the van is stocked and prepared for site visits in collaboration with Dental Operations Manager.
- Manages Dental Van parking schedule to ensure that vehicle is stored safely.
- Ensures that van meets all fire and safety standards, including but not limited to maintenance of emergency kit, fire extinguisher, and oxygen tanks.
- Posts state mobile clinic certification documents on the Dental Van and maintains its emergency protocols for fire, medical and public safety emergencies in collaboration with Life Long Medical Care’s compliance department.
- Assist in the disposal of sharps containers and other regulated waste with Facilities Department and waste pickup vendors.
- Ability to drive a 40-foot RV.
- Ability to conduct self in a professional manner (i.e., presenting to work punctually with neat and clean appearance, refraining from using inappropriate language or topics, etc.).
- Strong organizational, and time management skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner. Ability to adapt flexibly to change.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
