The current base salary range for this position is $80,800 – $128,700 (9-month academic year salary), however, off-scale salary and other components of pay can yield compensation higher than this range.

Position description:
The Department of Statistics in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks up to three approved tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level.

The Department seeks applicants from all research areas in Statistics and Probability, with priority given to overall originality and research potential. The research areas include theoretical, applied, computational statistics; probability; interdisciplinary applications; adjacent fields such as machine learning.

One of the three positions will focus on AI, Inequality, and Society (AIIS), part of a cluster across multiple units. This focuses on algorithmic fairness, AI and the economy, functioning of AI software within sociotechnical systems, social and behavioral impacts of AI, AI and education, generative AI, large language models and responsible AI in societal settings.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications required at time of application:

  • PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrollment in a PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

  • Service Statement – Discuss prior and proposed academic, professional and public service activities, committee service, outreach.
  • Publication (1) – Statement beginning with manuscript title and author list summarizing significance of the selected publication.
  • Publication (2) – Same as above.
  • Publication (3) – Same as above.
  • Authorization to Release Information Form – Completed and uploaded if selected.
