The Senior Program Assistant supports the Senior Program Manager in delivering EDMO programs. The primary duty is to act as a substitute for the Manager at any site, overseeing daily operations, coaching staff, ensuring a positive participant experience, and assuming additional responsibilities as needed.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities- Site Management: Step in and oversee the site while the Senior Program Manager is attending other sites; manage day‑to‑day operations and call the Manager if incidents arise.
- Program Support: Assist in managing programs, planning and executing daily activities such as snack time, outdoor play, homework help, SEL, and STEAM.
- Staff Supervision: Lead and support program staff, mentor new hires, and manage the team when acting as Manager.
- Student Interaction: Observe student behavior, assess appropriateness, and apply behavioral interventions to foster positive choices.
- Parent Communication: Serve as the primary contact for parents, addressing concerns and updating them on their child’s experience.
- Relationship Building: Maintain positive relationships with all site staff, including Principals, Office Staff, Teachers, and Custodians.
- Administrative Tasks: Maintain attendance records, manage site inventory, and ensure all materials are requested, received, and organized.
- Program Implementation: Collaborate with the Senior Program Manager to plan culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with EDMO values.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure program standards, safety protocols, and site cleanliness are met.
- Meeting Participation: Attend staff meetings and training sessions; lead meetings as needed.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional service by anticipating and addressing issues involving children, staff, or parents.
- Professional Development: Participate in all program training, professional development, and in‑season meetings.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned and step into the Manager role as required.
- Previous experience in after‑school programs or similar educational settings; supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with timely issue resolution.
- Highly organized, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Collaborative approach with the Senior Program Manager and team.
- Willingness and capability to step into the Manager role as needed.
- Love for working with kids and groups of students.
- Experience as a coach or educator, familiarity with SEL and STEAM learning, and experience providing feedback.
- Creative, patient, positive attitude; high sense of responsibility and dependability.
- Patience, flexibility, adaptability; self‑starter and team player.
- Previous camp or after school experience preferred; classroom teaching experience or credential a plus.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent relevant experience. - 48 college units or ability to pass the Instructional Assistant Exam administered by EDMO.
- CPR/First Aid Certification required by the start date. Certification must include an in‑person CPR component; compensation available if not yet certified.
