Percent time: 11% for Summer; 17%–100% for Semester and AY appointments
Anticipated start: AY appointments start 7/1;
Fall appointments start 8/1;
Spring appointments start 1/1;
Summer Sessions start May, June or July

The Department of Earth & Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers and lecturers in lieu of GSI's to teach Earth and Planetary Science courses should an opening arise. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bcourses site.
Instructors of Record duties include teaching, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), developing exams and/or quizzes, supervising GSIs, scheduling field trips, participating in field trips, maintaining a course budget, and maintaining a course website.
Lecturer in-lieu-of-GSI's duties entail leading discussion sections, field trips, labs, or instruction of prescribed course content, under the active direction and supervision of the instructor of record who has final responsibility for the course's entire instruction. Other course support duties may include, but are not limited to, holding office hours, grading, and participation in the development of quizzes.
The department is interested in candidates who will contribute to higher education through their teaching. The department is also interested in individuals who may have had non–traditional career paths or who may have taken time off for family reasons (e.g., children, disabled, or elderly), or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia (e.g., in professional or industry service).
Qualifications Basic qualifications- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) by the time of application.
- A Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) by the start of the appointment.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Demonstrated/potential for teaching excellence in the appropriate fields.
- Record of accomplishment in scholarship, service, and professional activity.
- A Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in the area of Earth Sciences where the department has the need for an instructor is preferred.
- Experience teaching college-level courses.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience teaching fieldwork is preferred for some classes.
