Senior Electromechanical Engineer & Program Manager
Location: Berkeley, California
Job Type: Full-time
Workplace Type: On-site
Total Compensation: $100,000–$160,000 + Flexible Equity Component
About the Role
Our client, a prominent Berkeley-based startup that recently completed its seed funding, is seeking a Senior Electromechanical Engineer & Program Manager to join their core engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to lead the design, fabrication, and deployment of large-scale robotic systems operating in demanding real-world environments.
You will take ownership of projects from concept through field deployment, balancing hands‑on engineering with program-level oversight. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical problem‑solving, while coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver field‑ready, high‑performance electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of electromechanical design, analysis, controls integration, and component/supplier selection.
- Drive design reviews, prototyping, testing, and initial production of robotic systems.
- Mentor and manage junior engineers, setting high standards for technical rigor and execution speed.
- Collaborate across electrical, controls, and field teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Conduct failure analysis, testing, and iterative improvements based on real-world data.
Preferred Experience
- 5–10 years in mechanical, electrical, or robotics engineering, preferably in machinery, heavy equipment, or robotics.
- Experience taking engineered equipment from concept to commercialization.
- Hands‑on prototyping and fabrication skills, with strong mechanical intuition.
- Knowledge of electromechanical controls, hydraulics, high‑voltage AC power conversion, and lithium batteries.
- Proficiency in CAD (Solid Works, Fusion 360) and familiarity with C++/Python for controls or simulation.
- Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent projects in a fast‑paced startup environment.
Why This Opportunity
Join a Berkeley-based startup at an exciting stage post‑seed funding. This role offers competitive pay, a flexible equity component, and the chance to make a real impact by building complex electromechanical systems from the ground up.
