Role SummaryThe Staff Reliability Engineer leads the development and execution of reliability testing and design for critical mechanical subsystems within our iron‑air battery packs. Working with the Systems Reliability team in Berkeley, you will translate product goals into rigorous reliability requirements, design and conduct complex failure experiments, and mentor peers on design for reliability (DfR) best practices.
Responsibilities- Act as the primary authority on Design for Reliability (DfR) for critical mechanical subsystems that support iron‑air battery operation.
- Translate high‑level product goals into rigorous reliability requirements and define the validation roadmap for component lifetimes.
- Design and lead complex experiments to uncover failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and accelerate failure rates under test, focusing on liquid and gas handling subsystems and electro‑mechanical components.
- Champion safety and maintain traceability and documentation of test results and reliability analysis.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of industry experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing new tests to evaluate performance and reliability of mechanical systems.
- Experience with liquid and gas handling systems (pumps, pipes, ducts, fans, etc.) is a plus.
- Familiar with developing accelerated lifetime tests to assess component reliability across operating conditions.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and cross‑functional collaboration skills within a remote, distributed team.
