“Quantum Invisible Particle Sensor” (QuIPS) experiment is a collaborative project between Professors Daniel Carney and Stamper‑Kurn. The quantum measurement group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory studies measurements at the limits allowed by quantum mechanics, from theory to experiment. The project involves constructing and operating a levitated optomechanics setup to measure nuclear beta decays and search for physics beyond the Standard Model.
The role will be held jointly between UCB and LBL and will be physically located primarily didates will lead the construction and integration of the levitated system with a silicon‑pixel beta‑electron detector already built at Berkeley Lab.
- PhD degree or equivalent international degree, or enrollment in a PhD or equivalent international degree‑granting program.
- PhD degree or equivalent international degree.
- No more than three years of post‑PhD research experience.
- Experience with quantum optics and/or particle/nuclear physics.
- Expertise in quantum optics, optomechanics, trapped atoms, and particle/nuclear physics based on quantum detection methods.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently, as well as in a team setting with project‑oriented guidance.
